Why Wanting Is Keeping You Stuck:

The Real Difference Between Desire and Ego

Many people often misconstrue desire, attaching feelings of guilt or shame to it. You might find yourself questioning if it's wrong to desire something deeply, especially when society has taught you to associate desires with selfishness or materialism. But here's the truth I want you to understand: when you truly desire something, it’s not about greed or ego—it's a reflection of your true self, your Consciousness.

There’s a key difference between desire and wanting that often goes unnoticed, but it holds the secret to living a fulfilled life. When you desire something, you are in alignment with your higher self. Your Consciousness is guiding you toward what’s necessary for your growth and ultimate fulfillment. Desire, in this sense, isn’t just about obtaining material things—it’s about achieving a state of alignment and being true to who you are at your core.

On the other hand, wanting comes from your ego, the false self. It’s rooted in the belief that something external is required for you to feel whole or validated. The ego convinces you that you need more to fill an internal void—this is where the sense of lack, inadequacy, and insecurity comes into play. The more you 'want,' the more you reinforce the idea that you are incomplete.

While the words 'desire' and 'want' may seem like semantics, they carry vastly different energies. Pay attention to how you feel when you say "I desire" versus "I want." When you say "I desire," there is a sense of empowerment, an acknowledgment that fulfillment is on its way because it’s aligned with who you truly are. When you say "I want," you are focusing on the lack—what you don’t have, which often creates anxiety, frustration, and impatience.

Desire as an Expression of Consciousness

Desire comes from the core of your being. It's the voice of your Consciousness urging you to follow a path that leads to growth, expansion, and fulfillment. It’s a calling to fulfill your purpose and align with your highest self. When you desire something, you are connected to the very essence of who you are and the infinite possibilities that exist for you.

On the spiritual journey, you learn that you are already whole and complete. The path isn't about 'getting' something to feel better—it’s about realizing that everything you need is already within you. As you fulfill your true desires, you aren’t adding something external to your life; rather, you’re bringing to light what’s already inside you. You are aligning with the Consciousness that is God within you, creating from a place of inner abundance.

The Ego’s Role in Wanting

The ego, on the other hand, is always looking for ways to stay comfortable and avoid risk. Even when you’re aware of your desires, the ego can manipulate you into staying in familiar territory. It tells you, "Let’s stay here. It's comfortable. We don’t need to push further." This is where the tension between desire and wanting becomes most obvious.

Wanting stems from fear—fear of the unknown, fear of losing what you have, or fear of not being enough. It’s tied to external validation, seeking approval from others, and fulfilling societal expectations rather than following the path your Consciousness is calling you toward.

This is why so many people feel stuck. They may have achieved outward success, but inside, they feel unfulfilled, anxious, or even guilty. The ego convinces them that they need more, but no matter how much they accumulate, it’s never enough because their true desires are being ignored.

The Power of Mindfulness on the Spiritual Journey

The solution to this inner conflict is mindfulness. You must continually check in with yourself and ask, "Am I pursuing this because it's a true desire, or is it something my ego wants for validation?" Practices like meditation and self-reflection are key to staying in alignment with your higher self.

When you live mindfully, you recognize that fulfillment isn’t about chasing external things but about staying aligned with your Consciousness. When you are in that state of alignment, everything flows—manifestations, success, joy, and peace. When you feel out of alignment, anxiety, guilt, and frustration are signs that the ego has taken control.

Desire vs. Want: How to Stay Aligned

To stay aligned with your true desires, be mindful of the language you use. Instead of saying, "I want this" or "I need that," shift to "I desire." This subtle change in wording aligns you with the energy of abundance rather than lack. "Wanting" keeps you in a mindset of scarcity, while "desiring" reinforces that you are creating from a place of wholeness and fulfillment.

Your desires are an expression of your Consciousness, while your wants are a reflection of your ego. By focusing on desire, you are moving toward a life that is in harmony with your true self. You are stepping into your power as a creator, realizing that everything you need is already within you.

Conclusion: Reclaim Your Desire, Align with Your Consciousness

The spiritual journey is about learning the difference between desire and want. When you operate from desire, you are aligned with the infinite power within you—the Consciousness that creates your reality. But when you operate from want, you are allowing the ego to keep you trapped in a cycle of lack and need.

Be mindful of your desires. They are the key to your fulfillment, guiding you toward the life you were meant to live. And remember, the journey isn't about accumulating more—it's about realizing that you already have everything you need to manifest the life you desire.
